Dust

Dust Myrrh 1972
There are some nice moments on this one, though it's clearly an uneven effort. Dust is best when they're doing psychy hard rock with heavy wah-wah guitar as on 'Gone' and 'Rich Man'. 'My Song' and 'Stand By Now' are both pleasant easy-flowing mid-tempo groovers. The rest runs from hard pop rock to folkrock, with two real oddball items thrown in: 'Eenie Meanie Minie Moe' is an anti-bigotry children's sing-a-long that's out of place here, sounding a bit silly with lines like "catch a hippie by the toe'. Then there's that unintentionally hilarious 7-minute patriotic exegesis of 'The Pledge of Allegiance' done hippie- style over the backdrop of 'He Ain't Heavy He's My Brother'. The lead singer gets down to some serious preachin' here: 'That's a commitment to people, man!". "The government is the people, man!". I love those "man's" and "dig it's" he throws in there. This album was definitely a keeper for me. Fascinating colorful pop-art cover to boot. KS
