Graham Kendrick (UK)

Footsteps On The Sea Key 1973
This British pioneer has dabbled with a number of styles over the years but this is the only example of him playing in the simple acoustic format. His guitar and soft vocals are backed only by string bass and virtuoso Gordon Giltrap on second acoustic guitar. At times they recall the contemplative folk of the early Bruce Cockburn lps. A very relaxing peaceful work and my personal fave from the Kendrick repertoire. Co- released in the States on Impact. KS

Breaking of the Dawn Dovetail 1976
On Bright Side Up Kendrick made a successful switch to a folk pop and ballads format. British ccm more or less but you're not gonna find many that do it better than this guy. Production- wise the approach is fairly typical: basic instrumental line-up with light orchestration here and there. But it's his catchy melodies - whether upbeat pop numbars, worshipful ballads, or telling New Testament stories in song - that set Kendrick above the rest. KS
