Mustard Seed

Mustard Seed Spectrum 1971
Here's a weird one. Comes in a plain whitecover with a psychedelic chartreuse bumper sticker bearing the band's name. I've listened to this one multiple times and I'm still not sure what to make of it. I think I like it. Not quite sure how to describe it either. There are some simple acoustic ballads, melodic rock with low-key psychy organ, pop hems on a couple tunes, an unusual psychedelic moody piece with wah-wah electric, trumpet, and reverbed vocals. 'Free People' has a nice Doors-ish organ solo (sort of a poor man's 'Light My Fire') and a brief token drum solo that all hip albums from this period were required to have. Has flashes of brilliance and edge that harken to the "biggies" that sell in the 3-digit figures, but overall it's not quite up there with the rest. Well produced. KS
