Mirrored Dreams Plankton 1978
Here another candidate for a megabucks lp, possessing all the required ingredients which are namely 1) it's British, 2) it's a private pressing, and 3) it's got an edge. Sure enough, copies of this progressive hard rock outfit's sole lp have been seen turning up in the international scene at $250 a pop. Overpriced as usual in this game, yet Mirrored Dreams has much to its merit, such as beaucoup hard-edged guitar work, phasing on 'Helping Hand', big heavy fuzz solo on 'Wake Up'. Most songs settle in a slow-to-medium paced artsy blues rock kind of groove. Only 'Foolish Hero' ups the pace for a BTO-styled jam session. My only beef might be the vocals are a bit lightweight, nothing fatal whatsoever. Clean production. Chunky bass prominent. Melodic use of both acoustic and electric piano throughout. Another fine entry in the ever-so-slim field of good progressive/classic rock. KS
