It's amazing the impact that music can have on our lives. More than just notes and rhythm, music can take us back to a time from our past, make us happy or sad - it's a way to capture a moment in time and re-live it over and over again.
The first Christian music record I ever bought was the Everlastin' Jesus Music Concert when I was 14 years old, living in southern California. I loved all the songs on it, but two songs by a band called Love Song were my favorites - "Little Country Church" and "Maranatha."
As Love Song's popularity grew, I can remember waiting with much anticipation for the release of their first album and it still remains one of my all-time favorites. Even though all their recordings have been re-issued on CD, I just can't seem to part with my old scuffed up originals! I had the privilege of seeing Love Song perform many times in the early 70s and always wanted to play the piano like Chuck Girard; little did I know that one day I would be playing piano and leading worship - now going on 18 years!
Creating this Web site has been such a joy and has stirred up many fond memories for me - acoustic guitars, bell-bottoms, warm California nights, the tent at Calvary Chapel, simple melodies, free concerts, and people just loving the Lord. Even though Love Song is a "thing of the past", in many ways, they are still with us in their recorded music and the impact they had on our lives.
Thanks to all of our guests below who have visited and shared their memories. May God richly bless you.

Todd Allen - Puxico, MO February 1, 1998
Marvin Dunagan - Salinas, CA "I remember having your Love Song record from around the 60's or early 70's. My oldest son was one of your fans and he later ended up distributing music for Sparrow and other music companies I am not a lover of contemporary music but like some of it. I am a fan of Southern Gospel Quartet music. Since those years I have learned to appreciate the artists from a variety of Christian types of music and realize each mode of deliver can reach someone searching for a spiritual change in their lives. Keep up the good work." February 1, 1998
Alberto Mungai - Rome, Italy January 27, 1998
Nathan Bishoff - southeast OH "I was born in 1978, so i missed the Jesus Movement, but i've always been fascinated by studying about it. I was just checking out the 'Decade of Jesus Music' website and i followed a link here. God bless you!" January 26, 1998
Roland Hanson - Riverside, CA "I thank God for this site! As I had previousely browsed through, I was overwhelmed by the memories and feelings looking at the pic's and reading the articles reflecting back when I was coming to the Saturday night concerts at Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa. The first contact I had with Calvary Chapel was at Knott's Berry Farm in 1973, the first group I encountered upon entering was Mustard Seed Faith, there were four in the group, Oden Fong the lead singer and guitar that sang some beautifully lyrical songs that completely blew me away, then saw Love Song in the John Wayne Theater, and plenty of other groups that day. I was there at Costa Mesa CC when The Road Home for the first time introduced the song "Psalm5". So many memories! Thank God and may you be blessed." January 17, 1998
Chris Vanover - Nashville, TN "I first heard of Love Song after they broke up in about 1980. I had just become a Christian and was living with other musicians in a band house on a cattle farm in the Appalachian Mountains of Virginia. I was especially touched by the live album's cuts, "Psalm 5", "Let Us Be One", and "Little Pilgrim". The group was a real inspiration to my friends and me, who had all come from pretty sinful backgrounds. I was twenty then, and today I am Assistant Pastor at Calvary Chapel Rivergate, Nashville, TN" January 4, 1998
Tim Gilman - Salem, OR "This was a wonderful time and some really great music.
I am a photographer & graphic designer. I have many vintage photographic images of many Christian artists from this era. If you ever need any that you can't find please feel free to let me know.
God Bless you and keep me informed.
Shalom,
Tim Gilman" January 4, 1998
Dan Brooks - Riverside, CA " I remember Love Song vididly, and spent many hours enjoying their concerts and albums. I am still being blessed by Chuck's songs today, including Voice of the Wind. Thank you for inspiring us all those years ago!
Dan (42 years)" January 2, 1998
John Fronius - Tualatin, OR "Found the reference posted to the Keaggy email address group (keaggy-l@intmed-39.intmed.mcw.edu)" January 2, 1998
Steven Moritz - Delanco, NJ "The absolute first band to turn me on to the movement. They were truly a Godsend." January 1, 1998
Mark D. Maxson - Ogden,UT "Knotts Berry Farm, early 70's, for a kid of 11 it was very powerful and quite simply - awesome!" January 1, 1998
Randy Hill - Austin, TX "Love Song was a big influence in the early formation of Liberation Suite, an early Christian rock group that is still in existence and that I am a part of (drums). The first Love Song album is probably one of my favorites of all time. Congrats Chuck on your anniversary." December 29, 1997
Mary Anne Miller - Sweet Home, OR "I remember the night you came to the Fire Escape in Stanton, CA to sing and minister. Many people were coaxed out from the street because we left the front doors open and put the speakers outside. There was an altar call at the end with many coming to the Lord. It was such a beautiful afterglow, and then the guys from The Way stopped in and there was a jam for Christ. It is one of my happier memories during a time when growing up was difficult in an athiest household. I am so glad that you are still together and working with the Lord. God Bless You, all of you!" December 20, 1997
Mike Atchley - Shawnee, OK "That first album was great. But bands change, and people change, and times change. We go on . . ." December 13, 1997
Steven Spencer-Priebe - Crofton, MD "Love Song "Feel The Love" was one of the first Christian albums I heard. Along with 2nd Chapter of Acts "Roar of Love", Benny Hester "Be A Receiver", John Fischer "Inside", and 3 by Pam Mark/Pam Mark Hall, that is how I got started into contemporary Christian music.
I was listening recently to "Feel the Love" and heard one of the players joking, "Here we are at the 1998 Love Song Reunion Tour!" So, how about it, guys? When are you playing in Maryland?" December 5, 1997
Barbara Ramey - Grass Valley, CA "Thanks for the memories! I became a Christian in 1973 and my first "church" experience was Calvary Chapel, Costa Mesa, New Year's eve service 1973/74. My introduction to Love Song, Karen Lafferty, The Road Home, Children of the Day, Mustard Seed Faith, Debbie Kerner (days before Ernie) and a wonderful new life in Jesus Christ. My first ten years were at Calvary Chapel. What sweet memories of a very special time. God is now doing a new work, not just in Northern California where I live now, but throughout the country and worship is very definitely involved. It's very different from our Jesus Freak days, but still just as sweet. One of the most important things I learned from those hippie days -- stay open to the work of the Holy Spirit. He continues to knock on hearts. God bless you and thank you Love Song for allowing yourself to be used of God in such an awesome way. I saw Chuck in concert a few years ago at a church in my area. I was so blessed to see that the annointing was still there!" December 4, 1997
Ron Ferdinand - Pine Bush, NY "Got saved in 1971...went from Beatles to Larry Norman and Love Song...glad you're still making music...." December 4, 1997
George McLeod - Greenville, SC "This was my first contemporary Christian album. It helped to change my life." December 3, 1997
Dan Linberg - Superior, WA "I found my old Love Song albums and sat down with them. They brought dack so many memories. I had forgotten how great they were. My two boys, ages 14 and 16 heard them for the first time tonight and were really impressed. We are going to sing a few of these songs in our church if that's ok with you. I need the words for the Cossack Song if they are around. I found my old Love Song book but I am missing half of it. I'll look on the Net to try and find them. Can I buy cds through this site. Thanks again for everything " December 3, 1997
Jim Goodman - Bellevue, NE "I love the music of the Jesus Movement. I am only 31 and I was not able to partake of this music in it's height. I do enjoy listening to Love Song, my 4 year old daughter is always bringing me the "Welcome Back" tape I bought, when I ask her what is her favorite tape she always replies "Love Song". My turn table is broke so the old albums don't get played anymore." November 24, 1997
Jeffrey A. Herot - Perkasie, PA "Great site, good memories. I still have many of the these old titles on vinyl." November 19, 1997
Giavanna Griffin "I remember when the album was released. My older siblings were into Jesus Music so I grew up with it. Some of my favorite songs to this day are from those first 10 years." November 15, 1997
Tim Nyhuis - Hartford, MI "I was in college in the early seventies and my roommates had the "Love Song" album and we really were blessed by it. My wife and I had the wedding song sung at our wedding. It was great finding this site." November 14, 1997
Bill Morris - Pagosa Springs, CO "I agree that those memories will never be repeated. I think! But is it possible that we could come close? Is God not the same "yesterday, today, and forever"? What took place then was a work of the Spirt, not of men. Anyway, I guess I think it would be nice to believe it could happen again. Thanks for reminding us of just how special that time was." November 5, 1997
Scott Knies - Chicago,IL "I have been listening to Love Song for the last 4 years and made them my most favorite Jesus Movement Band of all time through their obedience and love for God. I'm also in a band called "Seeds, who live in a community of believers in Chicago called the Jesus People USA" which to my astonishment was a band during that time. As a Christian for the past 8 years this movement has and is always bringing up the issue of worship and obedience in todays music and I hope through what Seeds is doing will bring a fresh new moving of the Spirit just because of love for Jesus....thanks for all the wonderful work on this Love Song Site." November 4, 1997
Andries Kleynhans - Tracy, CA "You guys were the first really cool music with a message that I heard back in the 70's in South Africa. Thanks for sharing your talents with us and may God richly bless you all and your families.
Your brother in Christ,
Andries" November 3, 1997
Rusty Spellman - Springfield, MO "I'm trying to find CD's to replace aging cassettes of Love Song and Final Touch. If they don't exist I will settle for new or newer cassettes.
These guys, along with Barry McGuire and the 2nd Chapter of Acts were my first experience (probably just about everybody's) with "my kind" of Christian music. Great Site." November 2, 1997
Frank & Gwen Howell - Irving, TX "Please give us information how we can buy sheet music for Front Seat Back Seat, Book of Life, and the Cossack Song. We are in a Christian band and gwen would like to see the music. Every where I checked is out of print. We have been Love Song fans from the begining, between Larry Norman and Love Song that was what I listened to in high school. I always thought it would be great to play your songs at our church, now we are getting the chance. Thanks for the music, and God bless." October 30, 1997
Philip Toth - La Jolla, CA "I'm 21 and have all the Love Song tapes. I fell in love with the music when I first heard the the Love Song tape in 1993." October 27, 1997
Bill Welsh - Huntington Beach, CA "November 9, 1970 - At a meeting called "Body & Soul" held in the gutted sanctuary of a baptist church in Lakewood (I was never a baptist - the person who shared Jesus with me took me there) I heard the gospel and responded that evening, surrendering my life to Jesus. A hippie and musician and a wrecked human being I was ripe for the picking. The song the band sang for the invitation was "Two Hands". The band had come from Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa and I think it was about 2 days later I was sitting half way back in the sanctuary at Calvary to hear Pastor Chuck teach and Love Song sang that night as well. I went up to Tommy after and told him I was played guitar and asked him if they were looking for another guitar player in the band.
The early days have never been repeated. God continues to do greater things but the move toward the complex caused a bit of concern for a while. It was such a privledge to be a part of that movement. I didn't get to join Love Song but I did start to lead kids in worship and share my Jesus music anywhere I could eventually going into Australia, New Zealand, and all over the US. Thanks for what you gave us in those days. It was a pattern for ministry that I still believe to be a standard. The emphasis was ministry not money. Pray that we see the new guys and the old ones return to that. People who are just thrilled to give away what God gave them."

Love Brenda Mayo (Bren)" October 16, 1997
Alvis Hill - Waco, TX "As a teen in the 70's, "Jesus Music" was a big part of my life. I appreciate Love Song and the other groups of that time that gave us an alternative to the world's music." October 12, 1997
Dave Anderson - Kokomo, IN "I've been listening, humming, singing, playing and wishing for more music from you guys since Explo' '72 in Dallas Texas!! Your music met my needs through Jesus in 1972 and it still does today! What else can I say? I'm still praying for you all!" October 10, 1997
Larry R. Sizemore, Pastor - Richmond, KY ": I was converted in the early 70's as a result of the Asbury Awakening in Wilmore, KY. Coming out of the long hair era, I had a hard time adjusting to church music in a Baptist Church. Then, I was turned on to LOVE SONG and the various Christian artists of that decade. It was truly anointed music and I still rather listen to those sounds today than any other. I guess you might say I'm stuck in the 70's (musically that is), and still going on with Jesus! My all time favorite Love Song number is "Little Pilgrim" - it still brings tears to my eyes. God bless you guys - and know that God has used you to impact my life. You will aways be part of my journey with Jesus. I now pastor a Baptist Church in Richmond, KY and if you are ever in the Lexington area drop us a line.
Going On and Going Up,
Larry R. Sizemore" October 9, 1997

Dennis Pikop - Sylmar, CA "This is a great site! I first saw Love Song in 1970 at the Long Beach, CA Municipal Auditorium where Calvary Chapel held monthly Maranatha concerts. I spent most of my early Christian years going to Love Song concerts and attended many of those you have photos of. What a treat! Keep it up and God bless!" September 21, 1997

Beverly Claussen - Modesto, CA August 25, 1997
David D. Burgin - Kelowna, B.C. Canada
"Love Song will always hold a special place in my heart.
I remember when you guys got saved and gave your hearts and lives to the Lord Jesus. The Joy Band wondered who are those guys? Today I know they are Dear Brothers in the Lord that I shared many wonderful memories of ministry and the thrill of many souls receiving Jesus as Lord and Savior through their music and their lives. Life is but a vapor and those wonderful days of ministry we shared seem but only yesterday!
God poured out His Spirit in such a mighty way. We thought this was just normal Christianity but now I know it was something very special.
To all the members of Love Song, I want to thank you for your ministry that has touched so many lives.
In Him,
David D. Burgin"
Former member of the JOY Group and
founder of the Blessed Hope Band. August 22, 1997
Guy Post - Boardman, OR "I remember in 1974, my best friend said he had an album that he wanted me to listen to. It was Love Song's first album. I really enjoyed and appreciated the messages that were given in the songs.
From that time on, I looked for other contemporary Christian artists. From there I happened to discover Petra (in their early years), Barry McGuire, Second Chapter of Acts, etc...
The afore mentioned artists, et. al., took me from listening to garbage like Led Zepplin, Black Sabbath, The Stones, Iron Butterfly, to more uplifting material. For that I will ever be greatful." August 20, 1997
Terence Bergmann - Cartier, Manitoba, Canada "Twenty years ago when I was a new Christian I bought "Feel the Love", and my folks almost died. It took a long time to show them that Christian and rock were not opposites and that God could be praised in many genuine ways that were truly honoring to Him. Thanks for that album that meant so much to me as a new believer, it truly is a milestone in my own Christian walk. The songs on the album will remain forever, and I am sure that at least some of them will be sung by us before the Lord, on the day of His return. It's been a pleasure to find this site. Ter." August 18, 1997
Bob Hartley - Macksville, KS "I grew up listening to the Love Song albums over and over again. I was part of the '70's Christian movement. I was in a group with a bunch of guys and we loved to sing and play the songs. They helped us identify with the New feelings of a personal relationship with Jesus Christ! I wore out my old LP's and would love to find some of the "good old" Christian music again. Are the albums out on CD?
Praise God for your witness to a searching generation!" August 12, 1997
Peter Jansen - Richmond, B.C. Canada "Having been involved with Calvary Chapel here in Vancouver for the past 5 years, its interesting to read about the early years and the impact CCM has had since the '70's. I really enjoyed the site. Very well done. Chuck Girard is playing at our church on Thursday the 31st of July and I am looking forward to it even more now that I know some history. God Bless." July 28, 1997
Jena L. Reeves - Birmingham, AL July 21, 1997
Sam Allen - Anaconda, MT "Ahh yes, those were the good old days. I remember your music very fondly. My only tape of Love Song was lost to theft years ago. Glad to find you again." July 10, 1997
James Pepin - Bealeton, VA "IMHO Love Song sounds as good today as they did 25 years ago. Just finished reading Chuck Girard's testimony at his web site. What a testimony, I had no idea he was that much into the "hippie' scene with the drugs and all, although I really wasn't surprised. What a witness for Christ he has become." June 22, 1997
Rick Prevost - Bakersfield, CA "I was in Oklahoma City when I heard of Love Song. We were caught up in the Jesus Movement big time in our Home Church. We used to have Jesus Festivals on the grounds and a lot of teenagers flocked to them. We had Randy Matthews come on one occasion. We also started two different coffee houses called the King's Way Inn. It was very successful. More later!!!" June 18, 1997
Tim Marshall - Monroe, NY "I just bought a copy of the Love Song "Feel The Love" CD. It brought back the memories of God's work in my heart over the years. As my kids listen now to DC Talk, Steven Curtis Chapman, Audio Adrenaline, etc. and are encouraged in their Christian walk, I am introducing them to the great songs of those who were among the first "Jesus Freaks". Thanks for the years of encouragement." June 16, 1997
Wendie King - Turlock, CA "My favorite Christian song as a child was "Little Country Church." I used to listen to it on my dad's 8-track player in the car over and over. I was only about 10, I'm 31 now, and still remember the song. Last night I went to a concert at church, and I had no idea who Chuck Girard was. During his first song, "Little Country Church" popped into my head, after not hearing it for 20 years. Was I surprised when two songs later, the singer announced he was going to sing one of their first hits, "Little Country Church"! It was a great concert, very spirit filled. I called my dad when I got home to tell him the story, and he remembered me always wanting to hear that song." June 14, 1997
Leonard Wisniewski - Tucson, AZ "I accepted Jesus in my life in 1977 at Calvary Chapel..at this time I was about to go to prison for the rest of my life. A friend took me to hear Chuck Smith speak..the message was just what I needed. Jesus loves me...within a short time [less then a year] all charges were dropped and I returned to life and following Jesus. I never did return to the old-life...praise the Lord! Today, I am happily married and have been involved in a number of ministry works. THANK YOU CHUCK...You will only know how much you impacted my life when we see each other in the presence of Jesus. "20" YEARS LATER AND STILL PRAISING AND REJOICING...AMEN" June 9, 1997

Jeffrey L. Dunning - Painted Post, NY "Love Song was and is one of my favorite groups. I have never had the opportunity to hear them live but would love the chance." June 5, 1997
Carlos Gomez - Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic "I praise god for Love Song's music, back in the early 70's when I became a Christian this music played a miraculous part in my life as I developed my faith, unfortunately a hurricane destroyed all my records, if I could get them back it would be like a re-encounter to my new-born self, I praise God I bumped into this site." May 31, 1997
Brian Shepard - Denver, CO May 30, 1997
Montey Barney - Independence, MO "I used to see and hear Love Song at Calvary Chapel, Melodyland, and Knott's Berry Farm with my friend David Hollandsworth. There aren't too many bands with a true blend of talent -- most are dominated by the talent of one person. Love Song was great! Thanks DH for a terrific website (I finally found it) that helps bring us back to the good things in life (early Christian music) we too easily forget." May 30, 1997
Curt M. Smith - Salem, OR "As a new Christian, I taped many albums that friends owned, including collections by Maranatha Music, among others. The memories that return to me are very sweet; I can picture myself in my room, with my homemade headphones plugged into a cheap monophonic recorder, listening to "Love Song", (the song). Also, at a bible school I attended in the early 70s, "Little Country Church" was a favorite that was performed by some classmates. All very wonderful memories." May 29, 1997
Margret Dyrholm - Oslo, Norway, Europe "Great homepage! Be blessed - love the Lord!
Best regards from your sister in the Lord, Margret Dyrholm, on my husband's mail-address." May 22, 1997
Suzanne Levy - Tyler, TX "I found this site thru Winkie Pratney's site. Here's a very old memory: In the summer of '69 I remember meeting a band called Love Song while traveling through Salt Lake City. They were in concert with Led Zeppelin. I remember a large house the band stayed in. So was that the pre-Christian Love Song? I've been curious. I came to know the Lord in 1972 in Hawaii through the Fellowship of Christian Pilgrims and remember listening to the song "Love Song", so it brings back memories of my early years as a Christian. Deepest blessings in Jesus as you keep creatively reaching out. I read Chuck's history of Love Song AFTER I sent the E-mail asking about the pre-Christian days in Salt Lake. Now I know my memory is right and I look forward to the rest of the story." May 18, 1997
Don Bowers - Eugene, OR "Love Song was a breath of fresh air back in the early 70's. I remember when the first album came out. I have bought four of five of them since. This groups' contribution to Christian music cannot be fully known until we see the Master face to face.." May 17, 1997
Elaine Lindbjerg - Vancouver, B.C. Canada "Love Song albums bring back a time when life seemed so much simpler and the choices that were being made so much clearer. I guess that was because we were so young and coming out of the hippie movement, we continued to confide in each other and lean on each other for strength. When I first purchased the Love Song album, I was 22 years old, newly married and then newly divorced with 2 small daughters, and every day seemed an eternity. I would play the album sometimes for hours on automatic repeat mode, and sang along with all the songs. When I hear the album now, it takes me back immediately to my bare little house, and my little girls standing beside me on stools singing along. They are now 28 and 27, and still singing (their own style of music of course) I will forever be thankful that God brought together Christian musicians to speak to us the way we best understood....in music and song." May 17, 1997

I would also like to know how old your kids are. goodbye" May 14, 1997
Les Duncan - Santee, CA "I first heard Love Song back in 1972 when I was a senior in high school. I had been a Christian for only a few months and wasn't very successful in walking like I should. But I was attending a Bible Study ar a friends house and he said you gotta hear this and he played "Little Country Church" from the 1st album. I was hooked. Even though it still took a few years "1975" before I got settled down in the Lord, when I started buying CCM Love Song was among the first and have been with me ever since. Thank you for this page and the good memories they bring and the hope that is too come." May 13, 1997

When I wore that one out I started hunting records. SOOOO glad it's on CD now. Looking forward to more of Chuck's solo albums. Do you have any recordings, live or studio, with Phil Keaggy playing? Make a cool live album." May 11, 1997

You know He is still moving! I recently moved to Calif. with my wife and three children to become the pastor of Oakview Baptist Church in Auberry. Pray the we would reach many for Jesus! Eric Milliken - Pueblo, CO "My memories with Love Song go as far back as I can remember. My mother bought the first album soon after it came out and played it all the time. I was barely a toddler then(born in'71) but I grew to cherish the meanings of the songs as I got older. I remember at the age of ten, secretly listening to my headphones after I had gone to bed, and weeping to the sound of 'And the Wind Was Low', overwhelmed by the tenderness of Jesus. As I progressed through adolescence, I fell away into dark music and drugs. But at the age of eighteen I had a terrible scare(another story) and found myself running back into the arms of Jesus, remembering those moments when I had experienced His love as a child. And there was Love Song waiting for me too. "Welcome Back" they said." April 28, 1997

Barbara Draper - Sandy, UT "I grew up with your music. Thank you so much for remaining faithful, in this crazy world. I still listen to Love Song. As do many of my friends. We call ourselves the 'oldies but goodies.' What is sad is when I mention Love Song to someone young (ie. 20 and under) they look at me as though I were a dinosaur. Are we really getting that old?" April 19, 1997
Sharon Price Thuline - Puyallup, WA "I first heard Love Song when they performed in San Diego in 1970. I was mesmerized by Fred Field's electric violin and the message of the music. The group's music influenced my life for many years. I still have my old records." April 19, 1997

I found the first album and fell in love with their music. It has been a wonderful 25 years!! By the way, that guitarist got to be a member of LOVE SONG for a short time! His name is Phil Keaggy. I was fortunate enough to see the band in Michigan with Phil, and again on the reunion tour in the mid 70's. The most heart-felt concert I have ever attended was a Chuck Girard solo concert right here in the town I live in..Oil City, Pa. The power of the Lord was over-whelming!!!
Congratulations on your Silver anniversary!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sincere thanks for 25 years of wonderful music!! Will we be getting an album of new music to start out the next 25 years?!" April 10, 1997
Steven Pitstick - Seattle, WA "I have been trying to locate copies of Love Song's first two classic releases as well as Chuck Girard's first solo effort. They seem all but impossible to find anymore, even in thrift stores and used record shops. Are there any plans for re-release on compact disc? Who owns the rights? I think these recordings deserve to be re-released digitally re-mastered with extensive liner notes and photos describing the unique era and movement that begat the greatest christian band ever! Thanks!" April 5, 1997 NOTE: They ARE available on CD. Click here for info.
Marshall & Debbie Wynne - Portsmouth, VA "Bought and listened to your cd about a year ago. Was VERY SURPRISED ! to see a cd by Love Song . Welcome Back brought back good thoughts. Also local concert flyer poster ad - Reunion Tour. Hey, tickets cost $4.00! What would you guys charge today? My wife, of 24 years now, and I became christians in the 70's. We met at YWAM . We were part of the Jesus People movement. We have 9 children, all ours, ages 23 thru 7months! Three boys, six girls. God is Blessing! Well that's about it. Keep the faith!

David Brollier - Huguenot, NY "While working on a links page for my site I came across Chuck's site. It was fantastic. I went to college listening to Chuck Girard, Children of the Day and of course Love Song, so when I saw the link I just HAD to come on over for a visit. You guys, and some others like Barry Mcguire, were modern day spiritual heroes. Not that there was a greatness about you, but there was a greatness IN you and that helped me tremendously in my Christian walk. Thanks for being obedient to the Holy Spirit and for having a web site so I could stop by and thank you personally. If you wish to visit my site, "L.I.F.E. With God" you can find it at: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Plains/1679/index.html" March 29, 1997
Owen J Gabbie - Saipan MP "I loved the music from day one!" March 29, 1997
Noe Gonzales - Glendora, CA "I just recently purchased the Welcome Back CD.
I really enjoyed the fresh new versions of some of the
most inspiring Christian music ever recorded.
Thank you LOVE SONG!
Thank you LORD!!!!
PS
I feel fortunate to have been able to hear LOVE SONG live back at Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa back in the 70's. The message in their music had a big influence on me early on in my Christian life, and from time to time still has given me a spiritual lift in my daily life." March 27, 1997
Blake Bridges - Athens, GA "I am 28 years and first heard Love Song as a new believer back in 1992. It was an answer to prayer to find rock n' roll music that praised God. "Feel the Love" is an especially good tool for witnessing to hippies. A friend and I are seriously trying to make a documentary about the Jesus Movement. I hope that this generation will soon rediscover the purist, most genuine CCM music ever recorded. Jesus Music was made out of a love for God and not for money." March 24, 1997
Fr. John Chiaromonte - Memphis, TN "I was saved during the early 70's... Love Song ministered to my heart... As a pastor now I miss the "spirit" of that time. I have a church full of young people.... I truly want them to experience the living Christ as fully as I did back then... Much of today's "christian" music seems so contrived... "plastic"... can I use that term... ????? anyway....In humility and love let us reach the young people of today... not with head tripping but with simple love and faith in our risen Lord..." March 17, 1997
Daniel Savala - Houston TX "I remember when the first album came out,I think that I must have been one of the first ones to buy it! Boy, those were such great times for me!. I love both the original LPs and I still listen to them! I went to the last concert in Houston and there was a fire so we all had to move next door to the coliseum so the concert could continue. As we sat outdoors waiting, you could see groups of people, some 30, some 40 or so in different places singing choruses and worshiping God; it was something you would only see at a Christian event. I am so glad that you guys are still going on!" March 17, 1997
Rick Willett - Graham, WA "Back in the 70's I went to a Chuck Girard concert. It was great. I worked in a christian bookstore and had several of Chuck Girard's albums and 2 of love songs. I was really surprised to find you on the internet." March 17, 1997
Randall G. Smith - Mesquite, TX "I met Love Song in person sometime around 1973 at NTSU (North Texas State University), as they set-up in the early afternoon. Phil K. had then replaced Bob. I had a brief conversation with him, never having heard of him at that point. I (as a very new believer) was very impressed with his gentle and humble attitude toward me, a young guy with too many questions! I believe I also met John Mehler that afternoon. What a fine drummer! Where is he now? HOW is he, now?.....I went on to graduate from the School of Music at NTSU, & am now a high school choral music director in Dallas. The music and encouragement I received as a young believer (Aug.'71) through Love Song was GREATLY instrumental in establishing me in our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ! Thanks to you ALL!" March 16, 1997
Dan Bagley - Willits, CA "Great page. Thank you and God bless!!!" March 16, 1997

Paul Noetling - Gainesville, GA March 12, 1997

Paul Jersak - Winnipeg, MB, Canada "I was only thirteen when Love Song first came on the scene and being from Canada, didn't get to see them live. But their music was my favorite. Finally I could listen to rock'n'roll with my parents blessing (I had to make Mom listen to the words first). I sang in a group and we did some of Love Song's songs (Welcome Back, Maranatha) and had a great time doing it.
They were a blessing to me 25 years ago and were a blessing in October 95. My brother called me from Vancouver one Friday night and told me, I'm Gay and have AIDS. I had just purchased the Love Song CD re-release and played Welcome Back and We're all Gathered Here, as I broke down and cried. Love Song helped me get through one of the hardest days of my life, and for that I thank God. " February 27, 1997

May God Bless all the members of this group for so much love they brought to so many through their songs and praise. Thank you from Maree and I. It is not often we get a chance to thank a great team in person. Your song's will live in our hearts for ever. We still have the original LP. God Bless. Robert & Maree." February 15, 1997

Dave Nichols - Merrimack, NH
"*sigh*
Love Song still is fresh, inspirational and satisfying... 25 years later...
Here I am at work, earphones on my ears hearing Chuck Girard's newer work, and remembering being on the youth group bus heading to one event or another, with headphones on and hearing Love Song... My walk with Christ is often measured by the content of the Christian Music I've listened to recently... or remember.... Love Song is a big part of that...
Thank God for your work!
Dave Nichols
PS -- My parents never DID allow me to buy a Love Song album..." *grin* February 13, 1997
Wayne Crum - Monrovia, MD "Boy! Does this take me back! I accepted Jesus as Savior and Lord in 1975. Soon after, I joined a Christian Rock band. We covered some country and black gospel tunes. After doing that for a while, we decided to do the music we loved best, rock. We began to write music in the vein of Love Song. We thought we were breaking into new territory, until we heard Love Song. Finally, a group that played the music we loved! I spent many hours listening to their music. The music was great and the words really ministered! It's because of the way the Lord used them that we have the different varieties of Christian music today.
I never saw Love Song in person, but I did see Chuck Girard at Christian music festivals on the east coast. The seventies were special times. Reading the pages of this web site brings back a lot of great memories. It also helps me to look forward to when all of God's children will join together in heaven to worship Him and sing the songs of our past and future!
I think I'll go home tonight and pull out some Love Song vinyl!" February 5, 1997
Dan Gallant - Marietta, GA "I enjoyed several Love Song concerts at Calvary Chapel of Riverside CA. (Greg Laurie - pastor) during 1975 when I first became a Christian. God Bless You !!!" February 4, 1997

Bob Wingate - Salisbury, NC "I heard about this site from the Webmaster, or Web Site
designer Dave Hollandsworth..who is a web friend of mine
associated with the Phil Keaggy email list group. Thanks
a lot, Dave!
I don't have a lotta memories about Love Song except having
bought most of their albums, and enjoying the music..
I got mostly into Chuck Girard's music after Love Song broke
up.. I used to spin "Rock n Roll Preacher" constantly.. of course, for all of their followers, I'm sure their breakup was a difficult thing, and their Reunion must be a great thing! I am ALSO unashamedly a die-hard Phil Keaggy fan.. and undoubtedly he added a lot to the "live" Love Song sound, although I NEVER got to hear it first-hand.. Anyways.. they were no doubt a landmark group with a unique
sound. and an old but new message to share. And they did!
Dave.. you did a remarkable job on this site! Congratulations, friend..." February 2, 1997

Joseph Almond - Lodi, CA "Wow. Brought tears to my eyes thinking about the early days. Not just Love Song, but meetings in the tent in Huntington, . . . Church in the Park in Covina, CA . . . Maranatha Village . . . Passing out tracts. . . Darrell Mansfield. . . . High School. . . Being called a "Jesus Freak" . . . . The Late Great Planet Earth . . . . Wow . . . . . Sure glad that I lent an ear to THE Love Song!" January 29, 1997
Jennifer Perez - Waco, TX "I'm currently beginning a research paper for one of my classes, The History of American Popular Music. The paper just has to be about anything dealing with American Music and I decided to do mine on CCM. I'm 20 years old and I've been listening to CCM for a long time but I never really knew about anything dealing with it's rich history until I went to a DC Talk concert and they did L. Norman's "I Wish We'd ALL Been Ready" and they talked a little about the Jesus Movement. Since then I've been really interested in learning more so writing this paper is really going to be a learning experience. I just started working on it for 2 days but I've already learned so much." January 28, 1997
Dr. Tim Hughes - Broken Arrow, OK "I attended and enjoyed "Love Song" concerts in Oregon and Southern California in the early '70s, and continued to follow Chuck's career for several years even after the group broke up." January 27, 1997

K. Davis - S.F. Bay Area, CA "I was saved by our sweet Lord Jesus, in the summer of 72, at the tender age of first Jesus Music record (remember 12" vinyl? ) I got, was by a band called Mountain Glory. I think it was on the Bread & Honey, or Milk & Honey label. They had a nice country rock flavor, and I liked it a lot, so I learned a couple of their songs, and sang them in church with my mom and dad. The next Jesus record I got was the Love Song album "LOVE SONG." I bought it with my own money, from my paper route earnings. I can still vividly remember, tearing off the shrink wrap and putting it on my turntable. I remember how totally stoked I was, when I heard the music coming out of the speakers, as I lay on my bed looking at the cool album cover art work. I knew right then and there, I had a new favorite band. Looking back in retrospect, I would have to say, that was a pivotal moment in my christian experience. I took comfort in knowing, that Jesus loved me enough, that He even cared about music.!
The fact that there was musicians, like Love Song and Mountain Glory, being inspired by the Holy Spirit, to write music that glorified God with a modern sound, was very exciting. So exciting, that I began to learn as many of their songs, as I could figure out the guitar chords to. Once I had learned them well enough, I would sing them at the youth services, at the little Assmb. of God church my family attended at the time. I remember how exciting it was, to turn other christian kids on to this new music. At first there was a little resistance, on the part of some of the older saints in the church. They were skeptical, of whether or not God would or even could anoint this new kind of "Gospel Music". But they eventually began to come around, as they saw God working in the lives of the youth. That was a very exciting time indeed. I continued to seek out other new christian rock bands and artists often picking them out by their album cover artwork, since there were not too many mags or music reviews, like there is now. It almost seems comical now, but I really didn't seem to pick out very many mutts that way. I am now 37 years old, with a beautiful wife and 4 wonderful children. I still love to listen to CCM on a daily basis, and am thankful to God, for being able to raise my kids on christian music. It makes a difference in their lives. I would strongly encourage anyone under 25 who visits this web site to seek out some "old" CCM bands and artists, like Love Song, Larry Norman, Randy Stonehill, Randy Matthews, Barry McGuire, Jamie Owens Collins,
The Way,Honeytree, Andrae Crouch, Parable, Mustard Seed Faith, Talbot Brothers, Daniel Amos, and of course The Resurrection Band. If you do, it will give you a brand new perspective, into the history of your "new" CCM. And you will probably find some music that you really like. I got out my "Love Song Live" double LP last year, and recorded it onto a cassette, to listen to in my auto. I hadn't listened to it in about 10 years before that. And I would just like to say "your songs have stood the test of time rather well". They brought a flood, of emotion and memories to my heart and mind. I want to say"Thank You"
Chuck G., Tommy C., Freddie F., Jay T., John M., Phil K., & Bob W.. You fellas made a mark on my life that has remained indelible. To God eternal be all glory." January 18, 1997
Svein Magne Harnes - Molde, Norway "Yabba-dabba-dooo!" January 17, 1997
Scott Day - Jefferson,MD "I came to Christ in 1973 and, after a period of rebellion, became involved in Christian rock (I play bass). Chuck Girard had a solo concert in Frederick, Maryland. I believe this was my first introduction to Love Song. Their music was really great and our band covered many of their songs (not for profit). Recently the music club I belong to offered the CD of Love Song's 1977 live album,"Feel the Love". I just got it and have been swept back to the mid-70's to relive some wonderful memories of Chuck, Love Song and Jesus. What a Blessing!!" January 17, 1997
Dennis Dietz - Bradenton, FL ''Somehow I missed all that great Christian music of that period--only discovered Chuck Girard--and the rest of Love Song in the last two years. It's opened up a whole new horizon of upbeat Christian music for me and is a real aid to worship. I also just recently discovered Phil Driscoll and his ministry. We love you all. Thanks, guys, for hanging in there." January 14, 1997
Steve Sommer - Houston,TX "I was introduced To Love Song in my early teens, To this day Love Song's and Chuck Girard's music is still my favorite I eagerly look and search for any new music or old music on CD. I currently have the Love Song, Final Touch, and the one it is a classic! Any plans for a reunion tour? I would fly anywhere is the US to see you guys again. How about any new recordings? Please keep me informed. Thanks." January 14, 1997
Randy Dellinger - Alamosa, CO "I was in Kailua, Hawaii attending high school and involved in the drug culture and music. Previously, 1972, I had made an emotional commitment to Jesus when several of my friends became influenced by the Holy Spirit through the "Jesus Movement". When the original "Love Song" album was released, one of my musician friends brought it over to my home and shared it with me. The message in the music touched me. It's influence helped shape my walk with Jesus. My friend and I began sharing our original music and "Love Song" songs in many churches and outdoor meetings throughout the islands. I should add that these were "not-for-profit" performances, monetarily anyway! :) I was so thrilled to discover the re-release of the original as I have long since "lost" it. This website is exciting too! Today, I am praise and worship minister and also the Minister of Evangelism in my local Seventh Day Adventist congregation. God's Richest Blessings to you." January 14, 1997
Gregg A. Boldebuck - Harvest, AL "I have been looking for information on Chuck Girard or Love Song for some time. It just seemed that there was no reference to either of these on any web site that I found. I "grew up" in the 70's and had their cassettes which of course are very bad by now. I played with a church group for a while and we did a lot of Love Song. They were such a fun group to listen to and had many great songs. Some of my favorites were Old Dan Cotton, Little Pilgrim and Sometimes Alleluia a great worship/praise song. I am just glad that I found this sight. Keep it up and I look forward to checking it out frequently." January 14, 1997
Chuck & Kimberly Birkenstock - Vanderhoof, B.C. Canada "early 70's. germany. my parents visited south africa, brought home two tapes: wildwall & lovesong. hooked. named myself after chuck girard (my real name is kai) formed band, first song we played: little country church practiced that song's guitar solo until i could play it... from there my guitar playing took off. spread lovesong to friends, everyone bought it, liked it. have learned: music's #1 purpose is worship." Kyle Widener - Shreveport, LA "Good to see you guys on the net!" January 12, 1997
Mike Murphy - Sherman, TX "I was saved in 1975 after listening to "And The Wind Was Low". I was doing drugs, alcohol and had learned that a drug pusher was to make an attempt on my life (of which he was certainly capable of doing). I now pastor a church of 300+. God used you to make an eternity impact on my life. I am so very grateful for the ministry of Love Song. I have bought all the CDs that I could find available. Be encouraged that the impact that you guys have made will only be measured in eternity. Thank you!!!!!" January 9, 1997

Ken Culp Jr. - Fremont, CA"What a blessing Love Song's music has been over the years. I remember hearing the music in the late 70's and thinking I probably wouldn't see them in concert, but was excited that they did their last tour that included a stop in San Jose, California. And then doubly blessed when we found out that the concert was recorded for their Feel The Love album." January 8, 1997

I miss it. Thanks guys for making those days special." January 8, 1997
Evangelist Buford Dowell - Phoenix, Az "It has been my privilege since about 1953, to travel internationally in Missionary Evangelism. For 30 of those years, it also included being a gospel organist of Crusades, Conventions, etc.
In about 72 or 73, after several years of enjoying the unique music and spirit of Love Song, I was invited to play at a "Jesus Festival" in Yuma, Az. It was hosted by my good friend Larry Reed, from L.A. It was then I heard and met Chuck Girard and Love Song.
The gospel trail took us in different directions and to many nations [over 55] ...but last year, way up on Minn., in a wheat field, I dropped into a country church, and to my joy....there was Chuck Girard!
Great to see this site on the net. Great to enjoy your music again! It really brings the presence of God into my life afresh, every time I listen! Pray for me and keep looking up!" January 8, 1997
